In fact, as of mid-2025, more than 550 AI-related bills have been introduced across the country. Some federal lawmakers have proposed legislation that would preempt state AI laws—effectively freezing state-level innovation in favor of national standards. But as of now, there’s no binding federal AI framework.

  • Prepare consumer-facing disclosures where required
  • Consult legal counsel to adapt privacy policies and terms of service

Even without finalized enforcement regimes, proactive documentation and governance practices demonstrate good faith—and may mitigate liability later.

The good news? Tech Startups that build with compliance in mind from day one will enjoy smoother product rollouts, cleaner due diligence during funding rounds, and a stronger position if federal regulations do eventually take shape.
